I was chatting with a friend of mine who’s starting his own business for the first time and in the process of raising money.
Aside from all the traditional feedback like it’s a tough money raise environment right now, convertible notes are always a good way to get started from non institutional money, make sure you’re only talking to funds that match your stage of business and fit their criteria, etc….
He also asked what’s the most important step in building a successful business.
Without hesitation I said “the next step.” There are thousands of steps from idea to successful business, but the most important one is the next one, and you can’t go out of order or skip steps.
Yes, you have to have a vision for the future, but it’s a long hard road between here and there and the most important thing to focus on is the next step. That’s the most important one.
