Lifecycle Marketing

Make every next step relevant.Keep sales and marketing coordinated.

Lifecycle marketing adapts pre-sale communication to a person's behavior, qualification and relationship with sales. RevOasis connects those signals to clear decisions: offer relevant help, route a request, pause communication or give sales control. The goal is a useful next step that supports pipeline, not simply another email.

For teams with a defined offer, an identifiable audience and people available to own follow-up. Post-sale Retention & Expansion is a separate remit.

Led by Travis Bjorklund. Explore the scope, then choose a conversation or a written brief.

Pre-sale lifecycle marketing

One request changes the journey

The next message should follow the relationship, not the calendar.

We build pre-sale communication around relevance, permission and sales ownership. That includes useful nurture, explicit stopping conditions and a handoff when someone asks for a conversation. Existing-customer adoption and renewal belong to Retention & Expansion.

Illustrative prospect journey Not a client record or measured result
  1. 01 / Content interest

    Offer the next useful explanation

“Here is the workflow checklist you requested. It explains what to check before connecting the two systems.”

Fulfill the request. Ongoing nurture depends on appropriate eligibility; a download is not automatically permission or qualification.

  2. 02 / A direct request

Let the person change the path

“Can someone help us understand whether this fits our CRM?”

Capture the question and route it to a responsible person. Do not leave the buyer inside a generic sequence.

  3. 03 / Sales takes ownership

    Continue the actual conversation

“I'll review the systems you mentioned. Which handoff needs to work first?”

Pause conflicting nurture. Carry the original request into the sales task, with acceptance and a next action.

A human response and
marketing permission are different decisions.

If the person is unsubscribed

Keep promotional nurture suppressed. Do not restore eligibility because they submitted a new request.

If they directly ask for help

A responsible person reviews the request's purpose and applicable contact rules, then handles the requested response appropriately.

Neither an automation nor a salesperson should quietly turn a service response into consent for a campaign.

Marketing permission and a human response are separate decisions.

Marketing treatment

Establish relevance before a longer journey

Fit is unknown, rather than confirmed unsuitable.

Use existing information or a proportionate qualification step. A content interaction alone does not establish fit or justify a sales sequence.

Owner: Marketing qualification owner

Human follow-up

No sales response triggered by this example

There is no explicit request or confirmed active sales conversation.

Follow the marketing decision and its review owner. Do not interpret content activity or inactivity as a request for a sales call.

The owner checks the request’s purpose and applicable contact rules before responding. A human review does not restore marketing permission.

Owner: Lifecycle program owner

Marketing: Establish relevance before a longer journey. Human follow-up: No sales response triggered by this example.

Illustrative routing guidance. No message is sent, no owner is actually assigned and no permission is changed.

What makes the journey operable

Start, branch, stop.
Then keep it current.

We specify entry, waits, timing, re-entry and exits; align the CRM fields that drive those decisions; and test conflicts before activation. Approved messages, platform capabilities and an available follow-up owner shape the build.

The handover can include journey specifications, message drafts, configured automation, test evidence and operating instructions. Review meaningful replies, requests, sales acceptance and pipeline movement alongside delivery and suppression health. Opens alone are not buying intent.

A few useful answers

Relevant communication, clear boundaries

Browse the decision library ↗
Is this for prospect nurture or existing customers?

This service focuses on pre-sale communication: establishing relevance, responding to interest and coordinating with sales before a purchase. Existing-customer onboarding, adoption, renewal and expansion belong to a separate post-sale scope. If your records mix prospects and customers, separating those states is an early requirement so people do not receive inappropriate journeys.

What happens when sales already owns the conversation?

Sales takes control of the next step, and generic prospect nurture is suppressed. A new explicit request is passed to the responsible owner with its context rather than starting another sequence. The operating agreement defines how ownership is updated, how exceptions are reviewed and when someone may return to marketing.

Can you work with our existing automation platform?

Potentially, after checking your subscription, record types, integrations and configuration. We map the required decisions to capabilities actually available in your system, then identify gaps or manual responsibilities. HubSpot, for example, documents that workflow actions vary by subscription and context. The scope should not assume every branch or action is universally available.

How are permission and unsubscribed contacts handled?

Unsubscribed contacts are suppressed from marketing. A directly requested service response is handled separately, not used as permission for ongoing nurture. We document permission evidence, opt-out handling and suppression responsibilities. The FTC's US commercial email guidance includes business-to-business messages; other jurisdictions differ, so applicable requirements need review by your responsible advisers.

What is included, and what affects the scope?

The proposal separates strategy, journey specification, configuration, content production, data repair and ongoing monitoring. Software subscriptions and substantial CRM changes are identified separately rather than assumed. Scope depends on usable records, approved messages, platform access and client capacity. A focused journey with clear ownership can be more appropriate than a broad rollout.

How will we decide whether the work is helping?

Agree success definitions before configuration: reliable routing, meaningful responses, sales acceptance and opportunity progression. Review these alongside suppression and delivery health, not opens alone. The review should lead to a business decision about relevance, timing, ownership or investment. Reporting can show observed contribution, but it cannot establish incremental revenue without an appropriate evaluation design.
